Jessica, writing under the alias Samantha, returns to 1997 for a high-stakes runthrough inside the fashion closet at La Mode, where pressure is high and not everything is as innocent as it seems.
Like someone else noted, I can absolutely envision this as a Netflix series. I love the nostalgia of going back for a peek into the 90's fashion world in NYC. Does Jessica bump into Ali at Palladium wearing the Chanel booties? Can't wait to see how this unfolds...
I could not wait to get to chapter three and then as I was reading it, I was thinkingβ¦.do I wait and binge? And just then it occurred to me that this NEEDS to be a streaming show on NETFLIX, HBO MAX or HULU.
Thank you! Thatβs the best compliment I could ever dream to get. Funny you say thisβ¦ because this story has always felt bigger than the page to me. Serialized fiction as a live manuscript gives off that vibe. From your lips to the right ears, Iβm building it that way!
Greta, this is exactly why I wanted to release Off the Record chapter by chapter instead of all at once. Knowing youβre counting down to Wednesdays makes this whole experience so much fun for me. Thank you π
Thank you, Aliza. You were able to capture the intensity of those days that you were going through in 1997 that you can even see at the time of the actual fashion parade if you pay attention to the details. The context I experienced at the time was quite different in Buenos Aires. Access to the internet was beginning, and not everybody had a computer at home, and Twitter was still distant. Most people didn't have computers, and if they did, they were rather primitive. I used to go to my former school's headquarters at the university to try to use what they had for free, with black-and-white monitors and a very slow connection with no sound. I would also go to my dad's hospital, and at the library there was a computer with a color monitor, although the images were still not of high quality. Since I was able to spend time, I was able to print a few things to read later at home with more patience.
The idea of diet pills is not surprising, but it is something I don't want to try. I don't even want to go on Ozempic.
Fashion in Argentina was always present in the media. I can mention Jean Cartier who was a pioneer, bringing fashion first to, yes, radio and later television with a show that lasted 30 years on prime time on Saturdays, continuing after his passing for a long time by his late wife, MarΓa Fernanda. They had escaped from the Nazis, and arriving in Argentina, they had a twisted career before settling for fashion on television in the dawning year of 1951. Not much seems to have survived and not in the best shape. If you pay attention to this video, you'll notice that it feels the complete opposite to your chapter: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNC-lNk6PdA

π stay tuned. Thank you!
Missing booties - this needs a full investigation! The horror π€
I can picture Aliβs smug face, too.
So glad to be on this journey! π§‘
So happy to have you here, Mike! A full investigation is warranted! Sam cannot pay that $10,000 Chanel bill.

Could you arrange that for us pretty please?

Iβll be waiting for it to happen!
me too : )
OMG, just as cutthroat as professional ballet. Dancers stealing pointe shoes before auditionsβ¦ just sayinβ itβs a dog-eat-dog worldβ¦.
So Black Swan is real?! π€£
Yes
I have to knowβ¦did the Fen Phen thing ever happen in real life?!
Sure did! Canβt recall the actual name of the diet pills but I went with that lol.
Canβt wait to read it π«
