I’m so excited too. The novel goes back-and-forth so next Wednesday we go back into 2011 etc

I can’t wait to hear more about the Ali she knew back then because there’s DEFINITELY lore there. Also I heard the no makeup in fashion rule from the 90s - I thought it was a Calvin Klein thing but seems way more industry standard.

Fascinating!!

Every brand has lore!

Haha stay tuned! The no makeup thing which by the way I never subscribed to, is a fashion editor thing. Calvin it was different because everything was about his aesthetic. OK, I just connected with my friend who worked at Calvin, who checked with her other friends who worked at Calvin they were allowed to wear makeup! However, a natural look was the vibe, and in those days you kind of had to look the part of the brand.

Really enjoying the read. Looking forward to next week!

So happy to hear! Sinxe Substack is a different medium than a novel would be, how did you find the transition from chapter 1 to chapter 2?

Surprisingly smooth. But it does leave me wanting more.

Ok that’s a good BUT! Excellent to hear because I’m chopping these segments and hoping they’re enough for each week but also a bit of a cliffhanger.

Chapter Two begins in the fashion closet, one of my favorite places. For those of you in the industry (or just sample sale obsessed): Do you still have that one 'stolen' sample or legendary find you refuse to part with? I’ll go first: I bought the most gorgeous pair of Manolo Blahniks for $100 in 1997. They sit on my shelf. I’ve never worn them because they’re too high but I can’t seem to part with them.

Everyone has an Ali. Isn’t it fun when those people we never thought much of appear again in a big way? Perplexing, a bit.
